To get a 3D ultrasound, you book an appointment with an elective ultrasound studio, confirm you’re already under prenatal care with a doctor-ordered diagnostic ultrasound, and choose a package that fits how far along you are. At Moms To Be Ultrasound in Orlando, every visit is by appointment only, and the best 3D/4D images usually come between 26 and 34 weeks. Then you simply drink plenty of water, wear comfortable clothes and bring the people you love.
We’ve been welcoming families since 2008, and the questions we hear most are about getting ready. So here’s the checklist we’d give a friend, from the first click to the moment you leave with your photos.
How do you get a 3D ultrasound in Orlando? The quick checklist
- Be under prenatal care and have had a diagnostic ultrasound ordered by your provider.
- Pick your timing based on what you want to see.
- Choose a package and book your appointment (no walk-ins).
- Drink plenty of water before your visit.
- Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to your belly.
- Invite family and friends to share the moment.
- Plan your payment: cash, Mastercard or Visa. Insurance doesn’t cover elective scans.
- Allow enough time: a 5 to 25 minute session plus up to an hour for photo selection and printing.
Let’s walk through each step.
Step 1: Make sure you’re already under prenatal care
Our sessions are elective keepsake experiences, not medical exams. That’s why we ask that every client already be under prenatal care and have had a medical diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their provider.
Think of your time with us as a complement to your prenatal care, never a replacement for it. During early scans, we demonstrate and document only the existence of a heartbeat. If our team ever suspects a possible abnormality, your doctor will be notified. Our practice is overseen by a board certified OB/GYN, and any health questions should always go to your own provider. If you’re curious how the two types of scans differ, our article on private pregnancy ultrasound vs clinical scans explains it well.
Step 2: Choose the right week for what you want to see
Timing matters more than almost anything else for 3D, 4D and 5D/HD images. Here’s a simple guide:
- 6 to 11 weeks: a first look and the sound of the heartbeat.
- From 13 weeks: gender determination.
- After about 22 weeks: good 3D/4D images become possible.
- 26 to 34 weeks: our recommended window for one 4D session, when baby’s face has filled out nicely.
For a deeper look, see our guide to the best weeks for 3D, 4D and 5D/HD ultrasound.
Which package fits your week?
| Package | Best timing | Session | Price (paying online) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Connection Ultrasound | 6 to 11 weeks | Short first look | $79 |
| Gender Reveal Ultrasound | Starting at 13 weeks | 2D + HD sneak peek | $89 ($99 book & pay later) |
| Sweet Peek 5D/HD Ultrasound | Ask us for your week | 15 minutes | $109 ($129 book & pay later) |
| Premium 5D/HD Ultrasound Experience | 26 to 40 weeks | Extended 25 minutes | $149 ($169 book & pay later) |
We also offer a Two Visit Weekday Package ($169 when paying online) if you’d love to see baby at two different stages. You can compare every option, including what’s printed and what’s digital, on our packages and pricing page.
Step 3: Book your appointment ahead of time
Appointments are necessary for all services, and we don’t accept walk-ins. Booking ahead means we can give your family our full attention without rushing.
A money-saving tip: our discounted prices apply when you pay online. If you prefer to book now and pay later, the higher “book & pay later” price applies. You can also call us at (407) 704-7997 to talk through options or ask questions in Spanish or Portuguese.
How do you prepare for a 3D/4D ultrasound?
Preparation is wonderfully simple, but these two habits really help.
Drink plenty of water
Good hydration supports clearer images, so drink plenty of water before your appointment. It’s easy advice, and it’s one of the few things you can do to help the session go smoothly.
Wear comfortable clothing with easy belly access
Choose something that lets us reach your abdomen easily, like a loose top with leggings or a two-piece outfit. A one-piece dress usually means more fuss on the table. Comfort matters too, because a relaxed mom often means a more cooperative baby.

What to bring to an elective ultrasound in Orlando
You don’t need much, but this little list keeps the day stress-free:
- Your people. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Grandparents, siblings and best friends make these moments even sweeter.
- Payment. We accept cash, Mastercard and Visa. Insurance does not cover elective scans.
- Water bottle. Keep sipping on the way over.
- Your phone or a way to receive files. Packages include printed photos plus all your digital images and videos.
- A few questions. If you’re considering add-ons like the 8K Image Upgrade or a Heartbeat Keepsake Animal, ask us about them. The 8K upgrade requires purchase of a 5D/HD ultrasound special.
- Patience and a sense of humor. Babies have their own schedule!
What happens during the session?
Depending on your package, the scan itself lasts 5 to 25 minutes. Plan to spend up to an hour with us in total, since choosing and printing your favorite photos takes a little time and is half the fun.
Image quality can depend on baby’s position, gestational age, amniotic fluid and maternal body type. If a scan is difficult, our staff will talk with you about your options. With the Sweet Peek and Premium packages, a complimentary repeat visit is included if baby is shy. And while we’re happy to look for gender, please know that the sex of the baby can’t be guaranteed.
Every session uses an FDA approved prescription ultrasound device, and the studio is owned and personally run by Ivania and Fabio, a mother-and-son team who treat every mom like family. You’ll find answers to more common questions on our elective ultrasound FAQs page.
